How to change driver's side cat on a 99?

I need to replace the cat on bank1. Trouble is it is wedged between the frame a and the front differential.
It looks like I could get at the front bolts if I got the heat shield off and the heat shield is held on by 6 9+mm (originally 10 mm?) bolts that are very hard to access - Is there a way of getting at this from the wheel well?
I saw a link to instructions of the passenger side but that is not as cramped.
