The Nissan Path

I just picked up an '01 Nissan Pathfinder SE the other day. I was getting a check engine light with "no codes". I did a code reset with a handheld, and then drove it around for a bit. Now the check engine light came back on, and Im getting a couple codes that are pending:

P1135 Nissan - Intake Valve Timing Control Bank 2

P1110 Nissan - Intake Valve Timing Control Bank 1

Can anyone shed some light on what I should start with?

Anyone have any tips on easy fixes, or a specific procedure to follow?

I can track down the problem and fix it the old fashioned way, but I though you guys might have some ideas that would save me some time.

Sounds like you need the 2 crankshaft position sensors. PN# 23731TB
You do have the 3.5 motor correct?

Tech notes:
Since the Intake valve timing control solenoid valve uses oil flow to control timing, dirty oil can cause the valve to stuck open or close. Before replacing the valve, change engine oil and filter and reset engine code.

I would be surprised if both crankshaft position sensors went bad at the same time, but ya never know. Also, I don't know for sure that they DID go bad at the same time, as I just bought the rig.

I read a post about this on another forum. They were saying that the problem was associated with insufficient oil pressure to properly actuate the cam timing. Everything was working properly, but the availbale oil pressure just could not move the cam timing adjustment parts. They remedied the problem by using standard vegetable oil in the engine, like the kind you use for cooking on the stove. HaHa, just kidding - not cooking oil. They switched from 5W30 to 10W30/10W40 in order to increase the oil pressure. These grades of oil are ok as long as its not below freezing outside. I tried 10W40 synthetic blend, with a Fram oil filter. Changed the oil, reset the codes, and drove for an hour. City driving highway, lots of acceleration, and 10 engine stutdown/restarts. No codes.
