Hey everyone-2001 LE with 175k miles
My fans stopped moving air at any fan setting. Control unit seems to be working because occasionally the fans will start working at a random time just going down the road. When they are working you can change fan speed no problem. I saw a post about a 2008 model where they suggested it could be a resistor. Does my model have this same setup? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Update - I stopped in at Starbucks to get coffee and make the original post because I was freezing. Get back in the car and the blower is shooting out air no problem so problem is intermittent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

So I found out that there is a box under the glove compartment that is the root of this problem. If you give the box a whack on the right side, the blowers fire up and work. I did this for about a month and now it is dying. I can hear what sounds like a clicking of a sick fan on the inside. Any ideas what this is and how to replace?

Looks like the motor is off centered and the fan is getting stuck with shroud. Had same issue with another vechicle all i did is pry the motor to the direction the fans didnt touch

So I put theory into practice and took the glove box out and pulled out the filters...dirty in there. This is the box I was hitting to make the motor work. I am not sure why that worked because the two aren't near each other. Then I took the motor out. Still connected I turned the car on and gave the motor a spin. It shows signs of life and if I hold it with the motor facing the floorboard it spins ok. It even responds to changing the speed. If I turn it at all such as sideways or the way it would sit in the housing it stops. Out of the few times I did this it worked great once and the other times it wasn't that great.

Do you think that means it is the motor that is defective? Or the resistor causing the motor to act strange.

Why does it stop when you turn it? What is inside there do you think?

What is the thing on the black box that houses the filter that has wiring connected to it on one side and has what appears to be heat sinks on the other side that go into the filter housing.

Speaking of filter housing...you can replace the small filters but what about that big one on the inside. It's very dirty and doesn't appear very easy to access.

If you are reading this thread looking to solve your own problem I just figured out what that thing is in the filter housing. It's the fan control amplifier and if you system has power and is not blowing that could also be your problem. If it overheats it can fail. Sometimes caused by really dirty filters. More info...if you have the automatic ac/heat controls like me you don't have a blower resistor you have the fan control amplifier. This happened to me about two years ago and working on this motor is now reminding me. I bought mine a junk yard. This post tipped me off to the difference in manual vs. automatic.

New motor from Rock Auto solved the problem.
