I have found that my vin # has discrepancies with the engine code. Vin tag says it's a vg30d. Anyone else. Needing a coil or distributor and having a hard time finding one at a decent price. Can't find a coil at all. Ordered distributor, not OE, and it popped a code. Sense then I have found that there is some kind of signature code to the ECM that kicks the code. The only way to get rid of it is to get an OE distributor. Any suggestions?

Engine should be a VG33E. An aftermarket distributor should work without a problem, but quality control is not always the best and genuine Nissan remanufactured distributors are usually much better quality than those aftermarket units. They also usually come with the cap and rotor, so that does offset the price a little when comparing them to lesser price, aftermarket units that don't come with those parts. The ignition coil is integral of the distributor assy., so the replacement distributor will come with a new coil.

My hope is that someone can point me in the direction of the least expensive OE distributor that won't kick a code. What surprises me is that one can't use the coil from the vg30. Do you know of anyone that has tried that?

The distributor doesn't send any kind of "signature," so I'm not sure what you are talking about as far as that. What is the code that is triggering? If it's a crank position sensor code, be aware that this vehicle has a separate sensor for the crank position located at the top of the transmission bellhousing. An ignition coil for a VG30 motor won't work because those engines did not have distributors with integral coils; they had separate, external coils. As far as the cheapest OE distributor, the lowest price I could find was from CourtesyParts.com. It's $248.44+shipping and the part number is: 22100-1W601RE.

That code is p1320, primary ignition signal.

Possible Causes:
Faulty power transistor unit built into ignition coil
Ignition primary circuit is open or shorted (circuit to ignition coils)
Ignition primary circuit poor electrical connection (circuit to ignition coils) Faulty ignition system condenser
Crankshaft position sensor circuit
