1999 Pathfinder Scan Issues

After scanning a 99 Nissan Pathfinder SE, 3.3L 4x4, I have some questions. Using an OTC Encore scan tool, there were two Engine codes---71, which is a Random Misfire and 3F. I cannot find anywhere on the Internet or even OTC what 3F means. Obviously, the vehicle is not really OBD2 compliant and although the tachometer worked, the RPM and another item called something perhaps like Mass Air Flow Sensor voltage were shown as 0.

Does anyone have a comment that would help?

Thanks

All vehicles sole in the US from 1996 on are OBD II compliant, so you should be able to use just a generic OBD II code reader or take it to your local auto parts store and have them retrieve the codes. Or, you can get the codes by using the mode screw on the ECM. You can find the procedure here:

Found 2 things for you...

1. Almost all the searches pointed to Volvo, but I did find a generic code P003F that stated this -- P003F “A†Camshaft Profile Control Stuck On Bank 2 - http://autoacademia.com/obd-2-codes/p003f/

2. At the very end of this page -- https://www.obd-codes.com/p03-codes -- there's a P03FF (not sure if same as your code), that shows it's a ISO/SAE reserved code. Basically they get to decide what to do with it.

I would take it to AutoZone or Advance and get a fee scan as @SMJ999SMJ mentioned. I know the 99 is 20 years old, but was the Encore reader you used up to date? How old was it? I have a little $100 reader and it gets updates from time to time when I plug it in to the computer.

I am still trying to find out what a 3F code means for the Pathfinder. Does anyone know?

Thanks

I worked as a Nissan tech for 16 years and I never heard of a "3F" code. Again, you should have the code read by another tool and get the "P" code.
