The Nissan Path

As title states, the O/D off light on my 2004 Pathfinder panel won't come on, which means I can't deactivate the overdrive..

Reason why I usually deactivate it, is when rolling down or up long hills to avoid using brakes so much or to avoid having the transmission shifting from 3rd to 4th and back constantly..

From one day to another this stopped working regardless on what gear I'm at... I can see the light comes on when switching the ignition... and if I go through all the gear level options (P -> R -> N -> D -> 2 -> 1) and then back to D it starts working as expected...

Any idea what might be happening? All fuses are good and no error codes on the ECU...

Hi.. I have been around for a few years with pathfinder and different forums and never heard about this one...so I expect this to be somehow an isolated issue that is not very common... The first thing I would do is make sure it is not an electrical issue with the gear shifter button (where you press in order to deactivate OD)... Is there any way you can dismantle the gear level or even get to the OD deactivate button in order to bypass it and try to deactivate OD by simulating the button..??

Could be the OD switch...could be the OD solenoid on the valve body solenoid pack...could be wiring. There is a step-by-step diagnostic procedure for the symptom "OD light won't illuminate" in the factory service manual for your vehicle. The best thing to do would be to go through the diagnostic procedure. Nico Club's site has free FSM's available which you can use.

Well, I went to Nico Club's site and looked up the 2004 service manual. Check 7.5A and/or 10A fuses, #18 and/or #24 in the fuse block, first. If those are good, then follow the diagnostic procedure that starts on page AT-218 in the AT section. If the fuses are good and the OD light doesn't come on for 2 seconds when you turn the key "on," then it could be a bad bulb, bad TCM, open/short in the wiring circuit or no power supplied from the ignition switch. The diagnostic procedure will tell you what to check.

Would you please share the link to access that service manual you refer to? I see the light on during 2 seconds when I turn the key on.. so there's got to be another issue...

However that diagnose is not working... as the light does come on when I turn the key ON...

Refer to the symptom chart in the AT section. Find the symptom that matches your problem and the chart will show the items to check with a number so you know what to check first, second, etc...
