Hello All, finally joined up after reading alot of your posts
2001.5 Pathfinder 3.5 4x4 MANUAL Tranny-154,000 miles..daily driver
in the process of the head gasket job-"welcome to the darkside, I drive a pathfider"- i read somewhere..so as part of the learning curve ..I used a chain strap wrench on the crank pulley AFTER pulling the motor, it created a 2" long flat spot ontop of one of the pulley ridge and a few nicks here and there..that flat spot as sharp edges..assuming it would and eventually shred the belt..canI file that out or to be safe buy a pulley..$120 ebay..I'll post a pic...muuust appreciated gentlemen!
( now i have to figure out how to post a pic..)[/img]

To post an image, you need to use a host site like Imgur, TinyPic, etc., and put the link in your post.

Nissan crank pulleys are brittle and you should never use a chain tool on them (as you, unfortunately, found out). If you absolutely have to, wrap an old belt around the pulley, first, to protect the grooves. Based on your description of it, replacing sounds like the best way to go.

The best tool I’ve found is the “harmonic balancer” pulley removal tool. Three prongs on one side, and then a single on the other. It can be found at most auto stores as a loaner. Best crank pulley tool I’ve seen universally. If you can, go to pick n pull with that tool set and a 27mm impact and pull one out of a similar r50. Working from the bottom, there isn’t much to remove, should be fairly easy (bring some diagonal snips for the belts) or some extensions and assorted sockets for the tensioners (17, 14 at least)
