The Nissan Path

I purchased a new filter kit to change the fluid in my 2wd Pathfinder. When I pulled the old one out, it has about a 1 inch neck that dips into the trans pan. The new one I purchased has no neck and the inlet is pretty much flush with the filter. I brought it back to the parts store and they said that wasn't right, so we checked the 4X4 filter, which looked exactly like the one I just pulled out of my 2wd. When I got home though, the gasket for the trans pan was different.

Has anyone else had this problem and which filter should I use?
