I need to repair my 1999 Pathfinder engine, it's a VG33E, blue smoke at start up, 400,000 km. Question:

Is it better to put new cylinder liners and put original size pistons? or to rebore (hone) the cylinder wall and put oversize pistons?

Thks

Are you sure you just don't have leaking valve seals or worn valve guides? If you've confirmed with a cylinder leakdown test that the rings are bad, I would look for a used engine (VG33E's are fairly inexpensive...check Ebay). If rebuilding is set on your mind, first you need to have the bores measured; you may just need them honed and have new rings installed. If they are in need of reboring, I would go with oversized pistons rather than sleeving.

Have you done a compression and compression leakdown test to determine what is actually worn out?

How dirty and gummed up is your valve train?
