Air box question

I took out my old air box and put in a custom intake with a K&N filter on my car today. my question is, there was a small hose about 1/4" diameter that plugged into my air box. The kid at the auto parts store said it was a vacuum line but I put my finger over it when the car was running and it didn't seem like it was pulling a vacuum. Is it ok just to plug that hose with some electrical tape or something?

actually i think it may be a crank case ventilation hose.

actually nevermind the hose that is for the crank case ventilation is much larger in diameter and it is closer to the throttle body after the MAF. I still have no idea what the small 1/4" hose that plugs into the air box was for. Anyone care to chime in on this problem????????????

I tried to do research as far as I can tell this hose is part of the EGR system. I think it either recirulates unburned hydrocarbons into the intake. I was sucking on it this morning LOL to test my fittings to see how good the seal was and i total tasted a nasty gas taste so ya im guessing it recirculates. Hard to say though because no one on this site ever replies.
