The Nissan Path

The cruise on my 96 seems to be non-functional. The only time I can get the "Cruise" light to come on in the cluster is if I hold down the "set" button and turn the separate switch to "on" at the same time. Then the cruise light will blink, but the cruise will not catch. Otherwise, nothing.

Any idea where I should start?
