OK, this might be a stupid question. I had some tires put on tonight and they said they can not do an alignment because I have a bad hub bearing. I asked if this was a different word for a wheel bearing and he said no. He explained to me what it was and it sounds like a wheel bearing. I have checked all the autoparts stores online and no results for hub bearing. Is there another word for hub bearing or is he talking about a wheel bearing?

Sounds like he's referring to a wheel bearing... in actuality they are located in the hub.

This is correct. Some places you can buy only the bearing to have it pressed into the hub. Others will sell you the entire hub assembly that already includes the bearings.

The former a little more difficult/time consuming/need to take it to a shop with a press, albeit the part is cheaper.

The latter is an easy bolt on affair, but the part price is more expensive.

Assuming you have a 4WD car, there is another bearing in addition to the inner and outer wheel bearings. It supports the front wheel driveshaft where it enters the hub.
Likely that's what he is referring to.
