No pdf attachments?

I recently had an opportunity to help a forum member with a question that could be answered following a 4-page procedure someone had previously written up in pdf form. When I went to attach it, I get "Invalid file extension". Really? We can't attach pdfs? I finally ended up pointing the member to a link on another forum.
