Extended Warranties are a waist of money. They do not cover your wear and tear items which is mostly what you would pay for yourself. They only cover major problems. If you take the $2421 and put into savings you would find that it would most likley never be touched or you would only use a nominal amount from it. The stories you hear where someone got their problem resolved and paid by those warrenties are far too few compared to all those that never have a problem. Insurance companies are in business to make money and not to benifit you otherwise they would not over such warrenties.ThePainClinic wrote:For those of us who bought an extended warranty/ service plan, how much did you pay? I'm trying to see if the price I was offered is to high.
I have 30,000 miles on my 2010 PF and was quoted $2421 for Nissan Security Plus - Gold Preferred. 8 year/ 100,000 miles $100 deductible.
I can put 10% down ($240) and pay $121 x 18 @ 0 interest.
Are there better prices out there?
That is my point though you got awfully close to the 75,000 miles and got lucky that you did not go over plus you got the runaround. Now in 2005 you could have taken the $1500 and invested it and gotten about the same amount back in 7 to 8 years and you would have broken even. What do you think the chances are that this will happen twice to you (especially since the 2005 had problems and your 2010 has all the fixes)?BroadlandsPath wrote:I would usually agree on extended warranties not being worth it but in my case it was. (extended warranty was for 7 years / 75,000 miles for about $1500) Plus I had about $400 worth of claims prior to the one in the below thread that was for $2500.

Just wanted to post my experience - I am original owner of a 2005 LE Pathfinder 74,500 miles on it. My oil pressure gauge was usually consistent and at idle was about 1/4 of the way up on the gauge and at 2500 rpm would be about 3/4 of the way up on the gauge (after warm up).
I started to notice that after the truck had been warmed up the oil pressure at idle was almost none the needle was at the bottom of the gauge but no warning light about low oil pressure. I have an extended warranty so the dealer I usually go to said it was faulty oil pressure gauge so they replaced it and there was no change on the gauge readings. I asked if they checked the oil pressure and they said yes and it might be the oil pump. I didn't believe them so I decided to try a different dealer.
The new dealer actually performed an oil pressure test this time and at idle it was only 6psi - should be about 15psi. At 3000 rpm it was only 26psi and should be around 45psi. They diagnosed it to a problem with a seal that was behind the rear timing cover. I had read about a few others with this same problem on other forums. So after replacing the timing cover/seals and they went ahead and replaced the timing chain and guides the final bill was about $2500, luckily the extended warranty covered it all.
