So.. tires...

Anything automotive in nature, be it Nissan or one of those "other" manufacturers.

So.. tires...

Postby palmerwmd » Sat Feb 19, 2022 10:06 pm

I also have a 2011 Nissan Xterra a very close relative to some model years of Pathfinder.
It is the 4x4 PRO4X version which came with some extra goodies for off-roading, broadly similar to the 2005 to 2009 (?) Pathfinder SE Offroad kit, except it added a push button rear locker.

It is currently shod with Hankook Dynapro ATM in 265/75-16, the stock size for the PRO4X.
These have a little over 31000 miles and 3.5 years on them now.
In some ways these were easy miles as they were almost exclusively highway, in some ways these were hard miles as some of those hiway miles were at 90+ mph for very long stretches' in a foreign country.

So they are not worn down to the wear marks by any means and most folks would consider them fine.
For Florida highway use they are actually still quite good for a couple years at least.

But I like fresh tires, just in case I need emergency offroad, and I like some AT capability just in case.
(plus next weekend I will do some light offorading)
I am looking for tires that are in the middle of the AT spectrum.

Where the Michelin LTX AT2 is an AT tire but closer to the spectrum to Highway tires and the BFGoodrich KO2 are on the other side of the spectrum flirting with the line to MTs.

The Hankook Dynapro ATM seem to sit in the middle.
The new Dynapro AT2 seems to have moved every so bit from the middle of the spectrum to closer to where a Michelin LTX AT2 sits, maybe not by much but the ATM seems just a tad more "offroady" from the look of its patterns and from reviews.
What to do?
I like my pre existing tires, nd supplies of new ATMs seem to be dwindling as Hankook may intend to replace the ATM with the AT2 altogether.
Its not quite time to replace my tires yet, but I do like to do that early and diminishing availability of new ATMs may force my hand anyway.

Yokohama Geolandars G015 are also a possibility but a) they seem a bit less offroady than Dynapro ATM and b) my last set (for the V8 Pathfinder) had some dubious QC.

Comments are welcome.

The tire market now have hybrid tires that you can look into. I don't have any direct experiences with them. I'm a fairly new truck owner that have only had the opportunity to try two MTs so far. My third set that I bought which I still haven't installed is a set of Maxxis ATs(which fits into the category of an RT-rough terrain/hybrid tire). You can check out this short list of hybrid tires on America's Tire's website:

based on your link I looked hard into these. but in the end they weren't for me especially since my size is hard to find.
