2005 Driving Issues

I have a 2005 SE 2WD with about 70K miles on it. Every now and then the car seems to rev a little bit higher than normal before the car moves when going from a stop. Its very intermittent like 1 every 100 stops but it still bothers me. Anyone have/had a similar issue?

I also have a rattling noise that comes from under the car when the car accelerates at low speeds. I believe its the muffler heat shield. How would I fix this? Spray the shield with dampening material?

Not sure on your driveability issue, but the rattle can be fixed with a well placed hose clamp, or the removal of the offending heat shield. Spraying anything onto the exhaust is not recommended.

Don't spray your exhaust with anything, not a good idea.
I had a plastic shopping bag get caught on my exhaust once and for the next two weeks all I could smell in the car was burning plastic/oil. I would find out where the rattle comes from and deal with it properly, otherwise you might have to deal with it again when the temp fix fails.

don't know about your muffler rattling issue but your first problem i hope your trans is'nt slipping due to coolant contamination

I hope not either. I'm doing the bypass tomorrow so we'll see what color the tranny fluid is.

Bypass complete. I think I need to do a drain and refill. The color of the fluid was brownish red. Has coolant already leaked into the transmission?

Contaminated fluid will have a milky appearance to it. In my industry we call it a strawberry milkshake.

However, if your fluid is really brown, its probably due.

Yah, not milky. So hopefully thank goodness. Going to the dealer for a drain and flush on thursday.

For extra peace of mind, have them test the trans fluid for glycol contamination, or have them give you a sample you can take somewhere, if your planning on getting Nissan to cover warranty.

That way, if there there is any glycol at all, you can prove it.

what about the throttle position sensor? if bad it will cause the throttle body to rev up and down. No?
