OME 1" REAR LIFT SPRINGS

Postby pawjr74 » Thu Apr 01, 2010 3:12 pm

I just picked up some OME 1" rear lift springs and they are massive. Almost twice as thick and way longer than the stock springs. I'm concerned that they will lift the rear more than stated and they may make the ride to stiff.

What is everyone else experinence with these springs?

I have the Bilstein 5100 I'm going to set according to the rear.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I don't have any experince with them, but keep us posted. The rear on the PF sags so much that those OME's may be the thing it needs.

The Vehicle is jacked up and the rear tire is off the ground.

I had a 2009 Honda Pilot come into the shop I work at so I took a look at the rear spring Honda uses. It is way beefier than the ones on our Pathfinders. (see Honda Pilot rear spring photo below)

you can't compare an uncompressed spring with one that's compressed on the vehicle.

The new one will compress once the weight of the car is on it

I totally understand. You can see the difference in thickness and how loosely wound the OE coil is though.

agreed. do you know what the spring rates are for both the OE and the OME? That's the key numbers to compare and will give an indication of how much stiffer the new spring is.

I can search for it, but thought you may know

I will be watching this thread. I am trying to decide between the OME rear coils or the prg mini lift. Please post pictures once installed.

Thanks!

I found the OME spring rate on line. It is 390 lbf/in or 68 n/mm in the metric system. I can't seem to find the OE rear spring rate on line.

From all my research I chose to upgrade the suspension vs putting in spacers. I chose Bilstein 5100 adjustable front struts and the OME rear springs/shocks. I'm going to set the front depending on how the rear comes out. I wanted to address the soft rear end on this vehicle and spacers won't change that at all. I'm just hoping it won't be too stiff for the family.

OE rate is a tad stiffer than a feather pillow.

I have OME rear spings installed and I can say that it's one of the best ways to upgrade Pathy because it will become more stiffer and comfortable, especially on high speeds and I do not recommend to use mini-lift you going off-road, because it will decrease articultation. So, it's your choice, what do you want to get - ride quality, ability to load a lot of stuff or you want to increase wheel compartment clarance by using mini-lift which will decrease articulation and will not change any specs at all.

Also, in case you're towing, the only way is to install OME springs (or something similar) or to use Airlift, for example.

IMHO, mini-lift is for kids who want to install bigger tires but afraid to upgrade suspension.

Max

P.S. extra load rate - OME 609 +50kg, 610 +100kg roughly.[/img]

@ Yarilo

Did you install the lift yourself?

I was wondering if you need a coil spring compressor to install the new rear lift springs or were you able to get the spring in by unbolting the LCA from the Knuckle?

I bought my stuff at a local shop( http://www.4wheelparts.com/ ) and paid a little more but didn't have to deal with shipping. FYI...4 Wheel Parts didn't know anything about the Bilstein 5100 shocks or the OME rear springs/shocks for the Pathfinder. I had to give them the part #'s then they could look it up.

A lot of people on the forum are using these guys.
https://www.4x4parts.com/catalog/suspen ... 7_341.html

For the front I purchased:
Bilstein 5100 Adjustable front struts Part # BE5-E653-HO ($108.99 each)
(can adjust from stock height to +2" lift)

For the rear I purchased:
Old Man Emu medium 1" lift springs Part # OME609 ($74.99 each)
(people on this forum are getting 1.5 to 2.0 " of lift from these springs)
Old Man Emu Nitrocharger shocks Part # OMEN184 ($83.99 each)
