Matic J v matic S

Hi All,
Just completed another oil and filter change, and took advice of this forum to do the gearbox cooler bypass - very easy as everyone has said. (took longer to remove the skid plate than do the bypass).
Also did a drain and refill to the auto box, using Matic J as supplied by the dealer, but noticed on here that many refer to Matic S - what is the difference?
Next on the list is to drain and refill the transfer box and front/rear diff's - what oil do you recommend? Ideally, the same oil for both the diff and the transfer box?

Nope, use "S" it superceds "J".

I did a drain and fill a couple weeks ago and poured "S" into my tranny.

I am going to have the tranny flushed because I have a bigger problem already, my coolant started mixing already, due to a bad radiator....

anyway doing the "bypass" as well.

Do you know how much I have to put in there to get the tranny fluid to normal levels? And where did you buy it?

Who is doing the flush? You can get the Matic S at the stealer.

I got the fluid at the dealer, 70 bucks for 6 quarts.

My mechanic is doing the flush...

Sounds like your just doing a drain and fill... A full flush is going to take about 12 quarts...

Yes I know i bought another 6 quarts for the entire flush. Do you mean 6 to flush and the other 6 that will remain in there?

The 12 quarts that goes into the transmission replaces 12 quarts of old fluid that comes out of the transmission.

wow those guys at the dealer told me that it only takes 6 quarts. So when they do a flush its 12 quarts?

that would depend on how much flushing you were going to do, and by what method

I guess my mechanic is going to flush as much as possible, im trying to get all the contamination out.

What different methods are there?

My mechanic said he'll use regular transmission oil with a machine and then he will take that out and leave the regular dealer "transmission oil".

hopefully with the method he is doing will get as much fluid out from there now. I have a credit at the dealer to get a flush done so ill wait around 3 months then do another flush.

I plan to do another transmission flush soon. I've installed a trans temp gauge recently, surprised to learn I run as high as 260F at low speed (10-20MPH) towing uphill. I want to try synthetic fluid. called Redline, they recommended their D4 ATF.

anybody know how to do a complete flush ? not just drain and fill.
