Furthest muffler.... removal?

Morning ladies,

Spotted the mini muffler way in the back recently during a flat tire change.

Is this really doing anything other then noise suppresion? I can remove it and straight-pipe it at a friends shop for nothing.... Wouldnt mind a teeny little hp gain if I could, or at least a slight throaty sound... but would it be at the cost of cabin noise or a buzzing at low RPM's, I drive tons of highway (56K/late 2008 SE), so maybe it's not a good idea?

Just wondering if anyone removed it... and no, I'm not looking to buy a Gibson or any other brand... just the freebie mod if possible...

From what I have read here, those that have removed the silencer, werent happy with the sound of the exhaust without it. None of them were removing it while still using the stock front muffler though.

I dont think the silencer is very restrictive, at least not compared to the nightmare "Y" before the front muffler.

Gotcha, tell me about yer "custom exhaust". Sounds like you addressed the Y pipe issue then, no?

Yep, I addressed it. I did it the same way mtbpath and bbermann did. Magnaflow muffler with two 2 1/4" inlets, single 2 1/2" outlet. Custom exhaust from the cats back to the stock silencer.
