Mod: Lockable Hidden Storage

Postby Budrbean » Mon May 03, 2010 12:15 pm

Did my first mod today. Installed a locked safe under the rear removable floor. Its obviously not fool proof but its much safer than just tossing valuables in the glovebox or console, which is one of the first places a thief would look. And it would take more time for someone to find it much less remove it. The safe I used is from http://www.center-of-mass.com/Store_InCarGunSafe.htm
*The floor cover does go back down and locks with this installed. If you look at the last pic, I just relocated the tire tools to the jack area, it all fits nicely.

1. Pull straight up to remove the plastic kick plate where the rear hatch locks.

2. Drill your holes through the safe and plastic pan. Pull the pan up and run your bolts through the bottom. I used fender washers under the plastic, between the safe and plastic and under the nut inside the safe.

3. Put the safe over the bolts, put nuts on and tighten securely.

4. Snap the plastic kick plate back into place and you are all done!

WHEW! IM POOPED!

While I was at it today, I did 60K service on the Pathfinder. Changed rear diff fluid, pan drained the trans, flushed and filled coolant system and went ahead and knocked out the trans radiator cooler bypass while I was at it.

The Pathfinder is happy! I gotta come up with a name for her

edit: I also found two dead birds that fell victim to the beast. One behind the brace infront of the a/c condenser, another under the skid plate.

Good Work, I was looking at a different lock box, but I like yours better.
Sounds like you had a busy weekend.

Im thinking one day when Im less lazy, Ill drop the spare and see about bolting it through the floor. Then there will be no worries at all.
