4.0 V6 ?

Postby Kestral » Mon Jan 12, 2015 10:03 am

I was wondering about the 4.0 R51 V6 in my 2012 Pathfinder. Were there many changes made to the 4.0 from 2005-2012 with the V6 in the R51? Things like cams, pistons, rods, water pump etc? I know they improved the timing chain and plastic guide runners but other then that?

Nothing I'm aware of. The engine is a beast!

I've not had the issue with the timing chain in my 05 either, that I am aware of anyways. We purchased in Aug of 2007 at 100k km, so perhaps it was done already.

The mechanics are pretty much the same through all them years. The updated chains came out in the 2011 model year. There was a slight drop in horsepower from 2007 to 2008, but I'm not sure why? May different cam profile or different software programming; I guess one could look up the cam part numbers and check if they were that interested? My 2008 SE gets a little better gas mileage than my 2006 LE. In 2008, they started using NGK OE Iridium spark plugs instead of the NGK Laser platinums, but they are interchangeable.
