That information is 14 years old and really isn't relevant, anymore. Back then, synthetic oils were just beginning to become popular (even though Amsoil and a couple of others had been selling them for years prior) and I assume Nissan didn't have any testing with them or just wanted to have a disclaimer in case an engine was damaged using one of these synthetic-based oils. Now, Nissan actually recommends synthetics on some of their late-model engines. So, if you want to use a synthetic oil, go ahead and don't worry.
