Transmission Oil Change

Postby falcondrgn » Sun Oct 18, 2009 9:02 pm

Hello everyone,

How often does everyone change their transmission fluid here? Im planning to change mines every 30k miles with a simple drain and fill only since I read from a few places that flushes are bad for the tranny.

Does anyone know how many quarts of ATF I should expect to replace during simple drain and fill. it looks like the tranny takes more than 10 qts of fluid, but during drain and fill not nearly everything will come out. Measuring what has been drained is my solution to figure out hown much needs to go back in, but how much I can expect to come out? I want to make sure I buy enough of this Matic J ATF stuff before I even get there. Guys, let me know if you have done this already.
Thanks!

4 Quarts even for me. BTW, Matic J has been replaced by Matic S.

If you do the recommended service changes at Nissan they flush the entire transmission with new fluids, as long as you dont go 50 or 60k between services its not bad for the trans.

If you do a drain and fill you need to drain it into a measurable container. That way you can put the exact same amount back in.
