You have to take a plastic paint scraper or just a flat tip screwdriver and pry the top vents loose. Stick the screwdriver into the top of that assembly and pry it out. There are 2 lock tabs on the top of that unit that will come loose. when that is out you will see the screws you have to remove to pull the bezel out.

after I took out the 2 screws at the bottom I simply just worked it up from the sides and kept prying with my fingers. the top two do require a bit of a tug though

Just got my 99 and trying to install a new Pioneer unit. I can get the top and sides apart but can't see what's stopping it at the bottom?

Will give it another go tomorrow.

Thanks
Peter

I gather some how I need to remove the center console as well to get to these screws? Looking photos I have found for bezel removal these are from a manual.

Ah haaaa
I got it. What the instructions don't say is that you have to also pry out the centre floor console to get to the 2 screws.
That was the easy part.
Next I went to a local car parts dealer to get wiring harness.
1 for Nissan 95 to 00
2 Pioneer to Nissan.

Neither harness was right.

Option then was to use existing harness for original radio and splice to the Pioneer harness that came with the new radio. Hmmm Challange was to find the wiring diagram for the original radio harness and match to specs for the new Pioneer harness.

So in the end I managed to nut it out.

All working fine.
