Bad gas milage.

Postby nick1983 » Sun Dec 26, 2010 2:53 pm

My mpg gauge is where it usually is but my fuel guage seems to be dropping more quickly than usual. What could be the cause of this?

I drive a 05 pathfinder se offroad, with only about 55000km.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is this based off of your computer readout or did you calculate it after a fill up. how often do you reset your readout. it is a calculation of miles driven and fuel usage. the more mileage the more it takes to change. in winter your fuel mileage will drop due to the fuel mixture.

Hillbilly is right, you need to measure actual distance travelled vs actual fuel put into the tank. And to be accurate, you need to do that over several tanks of fuel.

I have noticed a decrease in my 05 SE, factors affecting this could include the change in tire size when I went to REV02s, winter gas, and the fact that our driving habits have changes from 80% hwy 20% city to about just the invert of that.

What kind of numbers are you seeing? Right now it looks like I get about 140mi on 1/2 a tank.

On a full tank, I'm getting 370km. I also have new tires put on, 265/75/16 so that seems to burn more fuel as it is a heavier and slightly wider tire.

I've been getting between 450-480km(280-300miles) in the winter, just before the gas light comes on. I fill up 87oct at Superstore and Costco. I can squeeze out another 100km or so during the summer. Still running the OEM BF Goodrich Long Trail 265/65/17. I noticed the screen readout reads a bit higher than my written calculations, about 1-1.5L/100km more.

You guys must get bad gas out there or something.

Your mileage is right in line with what I stated, 140mi on 1/2 a tank. Thats 225km on 40L.

I'm glad that my numbers aren't out of the ordinary. However, I used to get way better numbers. When I first bought this truck at 95kkms, I could get 300-350km on 1/2 a tank (40L of fuel). Took it on a couple long trips and could squeeze well over 550km out of a tank.

The only change is that the truck now has 160000kms, and I put these humungous Bridgestones on.

Which direction are you driving?

i went from Indiana to MI this weekend and reset the on board computer before I headed north. It usually gets 16.5 mpg. There was a bad head wind out of the north and I averaged 14.8 on the drive up. My average speed was between 70-80.

on the way back south averaging the same speeds, I got 17 mpg....
