I have always used synthetic and change it religiously at 3k miles. My motor is spotless with not one bit of varnish with 128k. The Nissan Tech. I talked to also said it is not just the pathfinder more-so the vq in general. I don't know what the deal is with it but it does suck!eieio wrote:it would be interesting to know what year models, and at what mileages, these timing chain issues are occuring, and if it seems to be related to maintenance (type of oil & filter and frequency of oil/filter maintenance)
maybe a poll is in order?
The two guides that make the noise are the ones on the two secondary chains, the ones that link each cam together. I guess if it was bad enough if could loosen up enough to bend some valves. The guys I talked to said he has seen some pretty badly worn guides but never any damaged motors yet.kev1n wrote:What would happen if this goes unaddressed and the chain breaks? Would the engine seize ? Would you lose control of the car?
