Additional Light

Hey guys,

picking this up today, and need ur thoughts on how to mount it to make it as least ugly as possible.

i offroad a lot, and the pathy headlights honestly just suck.
photoshopped, but any suggestions on change welcome.

Gotgod, i like ur lightbar idea, got any closeups of it?

you could hide it if you had some kind of lower grille insert- I bet that thing is gonna throw the hell outta some light

I like how you have it in the 2nd photo. Figuring out how to attach it to a solid metal mounting point is a big question. Maybe you could run a narrow aluminum 1/4" strip across that opening & attach both ends to metal. My only concern would be how warm the thing gets (LEDs can run quite hot) & if there is enough ventilation all the way around it. The specs are impressive & I totally want one now. At least until I saw the price. I know what you mean by not having enough light, and I've been searching for a solution to that as well. Keep us posted.

I was thinking I wanted one too...until the price! Holy crap. The bad part is my first thought was how to keep it from getting busted. I've already lost one my fog lights to a rock. And at $1,000.....screw the chance of busting that thing up. Very cool though if money is no object.

yeah im getting it for $550 here, second hand.
my friend had it on his FJ, and it can light up to the next country.

Steve, thats what i was thinking, but worried also bout the heat melting the small bumper parts. if i push it in too far away, a lot of light would be lost.

If I were to get one, I'd mount it to the underside of my front Thule crossbar up on top. I'd also make sure that I could lock that super expensive puppy to the bar. Wiring would be a bit of a bitch, but can certainly be done. I'd probably be too afraid that having a $1k part right at "sticky fingers" level would make me paranoid about leaving it on all the time.

I notice you don't have the factory crossbar pieces up top. You could probably fabricate a mount to those easily enough. That would allow for tons of ventilation and a better angle for the light beams.

No close ups yet, but the holes i drilled were the biggest pain well mainly for my knuckles. I did how ever whip up this very hi-tech drawing to help explain!

The hockey stick pieces are 1/4in thick steel brackets for angle iron racks of some kind and the square tube is the section of my old roof rack that had all my light tabs welded to it. Its is by far nothing special and currently kinda ugly being un-finished.

ok... so update:
roof mount is completely useless, and even makes seeing HARDER, cause all the dust particles will light up in your face, and its like driving thru a heavy snowstorm.

bumper mount, the lighting is fcuking awesome!! but i couldnt find any place to safely install it without risking breaking it as soon as i bash a dune.
+ its not road legal, so cant use it to flash that Prius doing 20 in the fast lane.

long story short, its not gonna work

i think ill wait till the new pathy comes in with the xenon headlights and just replace the whole thing.

No problem lol. Have you looked at the westin light bar it holds three lights but you might be able to mount it on the bottom side of the bar.

yeah i cant go for anything u have, cause well, uv seen my pix.

nothing can be sticking out of the bumper cause thats the killzone
my bumper is barely holding on for dear life as is, but its still under warranty if it breaks. a $500 LED lightbar isnt

the lower metal bumper is perfect for the fit, if i could extend it 2 inches back, but then the light might be lost inside.
i think ill probly keep the whole idea on hold and buy myself a bullydog ECU programmer with the money instead.

Whats the difference between the Bullydog and say a UniChip?? I'd like to see how the vehicle would perform with out the WOT restrictor

unichip doesnt have as many features as the bullydog, and u cant control too many things with it. plus its programmed to one set of options and installed.

Bullydog has many presets and programmable sets of options, and u can switch between any easily. it also has a screen and does fault monitoring.
includes settings for max economy or max performance, and just easier to deal with IMO.
