Tire Questions

I have a few questions about tires I was hoping I could get help with. After having to add more air to a tire that has a slow leak last night, I started to think about getting new tires in about 6 months. I'm still running on the tires that came with the truck (General Grabber somethings) and will rack up about 70K miles on those by the time I'm ready to trade them out.

- How does the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) that is integrated into the NAV work on the Pathfinders (2006 LE)?

- What do I need to do to continue to have it work after new tires?

- I am seriously looking into the PRG mini lift. What size tire will that allow me to put on the truck after installed?

- What tires are other members running that they seem to like?

- If I get bigger tires, will I also need bigger rims? Should I look for anything special in the new rims? Who sells nice rims that look good on the Pathfinder?

Help with any or all of these questions would be greatly appreciated!!

the TPMS is just a sensor that is attached to the valve stem. just inform the tire shop that you have TPMS and they should take precautions to not smash the sensors, or rip them off with the installation machine.

if you get new rims, make sure they are compatible with TPMS sensors.

So it looks like they are part of the valve stem. Does that mean I will need to order new stems or do they come off the stem and get put on new stems if installed?

you will reuse the sensor if you change your rims. you do not need to change the stems in them.

That is not correct. The TPMS is connected to the tire and to the steering column. It is not connected to the valve. The valve is where the air goes in.

the TPMS sensor is a black plastic piece that is connected to the inside of the valve stem. it is not a separate piece. the valve core can be replaced, but the valve stem is part of the TPMS.

Looks like my slow leak is getting worse. I filled up the tire to 36PSI last Thurs (7/16) and this morning it is down to 28PSI and setting off the TPMS again.

The stock tires it came with have been pretty decent for me (General Grabber P265/65R17) but is are there other brands that you guys would recommend?

Also, what is a good place to get them? Mom and pop shop, Tirerack, Costco....

I have never had to replace tires on a vehicle before. Usually I end of getting rid of it before it needs new tires. The only one I kept long enough for new tires was a 92 Ford Explorer but got three sets of new tires thanks to that huge Firestone recall so I didn't have a choice as to what I got.

I use the Michelin LTX M/S on both my trucks and have had very good results with them......... Triffid

What size are you running? The closest thing to stock that I see is a P265/70R17. Would that fit on a stock Pathfinder LE?

A 256/70r17 is = to the stock size that come on the OffRoad PF> that has a 265/75R16.

I'm getting close to changing my tires. Im going from 265/65R17 to a 265/70R17. Basicly its on the large size of a 31X10.5.R17. I would love to get grid of my 17" wheels and go with a 16" and run a true flotation tire.

I use the Michelin LTX M/S P265/75R16 Tires... Same size as the ones that can on the truck........... Triffid

perfect choice! careful with those sidewalls though, they burst easily.

i fit the same but 275/70/16 and no rubbing on the fenders. on sand, they're just brilliant tyres.
