It just happened bringing back some groceries, closed the door, now it stays shut
I can see that the netting that goes across seems to be stuck in the door also, maybe thats jamming the sensor ?

Does the rear window open? And did you try the inside release thats behind the small square cover? you can reach it through the window. Pop the cover and lift up on the lever. If that net is in that latch it may need a good tug from outside or push from inside while you hold up on that lever. I'm also wondering if the battery needs disconnected because of the power closing and latching system. not sure. hope I'm not telling you everything you tried already. Hope this helps!
If the window opened we now know the tailgate is unlocked. Did you find and try the inside release thats behind the small cover on the tailgate plastic panel? It overrides the electronic latch so disconecting the battery wouldn't matter. Is the cargo net stuck in the latch for sure? if so I would try pulling it out. As to pearl62 post the 08s tailgate will open if the window is unlatched or open but I think my 05 would not.
