Fuel mixed with Ethanol

Hi All!!

Long time reader first time poster. I read the owner's manual for my 2006 Pathfinder and it says don't use fuel with ethanol. Yet I can't find a gas station in my current area without having some mixture of it. They usually use 10% ethanol mixed with the gas. Does anybody notice any problems with their Pathfinder with the ethanol mixed gas.

Hard to find fuel anywhere without 10% ethanol. Shouldn't hurt anything, but it does dog your mpg a bit. The problem with stronger blends of ethanol (e-80) is that it will cause damage to fuel lines that aren't made specifically for it. Plus it will run like crap if the computer doesn't have the programming to compensate for that much ethanol in the fuel. 10% isn't enough to throw off the ECU.

I don't think i've ever seen anything but a 10% mix.... Its that or nothing around here.

anybody else wonder if ethanol, or other non-optional "additives", may be causing or contributing to the fuel level sending unit failures?

Interesting theory. Without knowing the materials used to construct it, kind of impossible to determine.

Up here in Manitoba, if you buy high octane fuel, there is no ethanol in it.

it may well be that the designers of some of these components may not have had (or wanted

) the information necessary to engineer the parts to be impervious to anything but gasoline.

OK, so I read page 9-3 in the owners manual posted on the forum here. It doesn't say not to use fuel with ethanol. (which is an oxygenate) It says the concentration shouldn't be greater than 10%.

It does say not to use E85, or 85% ethanol. Not designed for it.

It was A while back that I read it. Interesting theory about the ethanol causing the fuel sender unit failures. I haven't had any issues with my truck. (knock on wood)
