4WD Light on dash

While driving in 4WD this weekend in our newly fallen snow, i noticed that the "4WD" light on the dash does not illuminated when in 4x4 high. The front wheels in the little drivetrain graphic turn on, but no light. The light does illuminate when the key is turned to the on position at startup.

It does go into 4WD, as i can tell by the traction difference in the snow.

Any thoughts?

Edit: after a quick read through the owner's manual, it looks like the light should only come on when there is an issue. I seem to remember it being on last year while in 4wd, even though everything seemed ok.

The difference in drive selection is shown on the graphic pad, read diff for 2wd, front and rear diff 4wd and front, rear and center for 4wd low.

Light is system check only - like engine check and ABS

I'm at my office in the middle of the work day, so I can't really run out to the lot and check, but I THINK that the light also comes on in 4LO right?

No but the VDC OFF light comes on.

I think it only lights up if there is a problem.

I just checked the service manual and it reads that it is a warning light.

The 4wd light is only a warning light, but the small screen should indicate when your in 4hi as well as in 4lo.
