Fab some shackle mounts to replace the factory tow hook...

Fab some shackle mounts to replace the factory tow hook for a more secure recovery strap pulling point. All I needed was some steel angle, weld on 3/4" shackle mounts, 3/4" shackles, portable band saw, welder, and some paint. Now if the need for recovery arises then I have a better option than the factory hook.

those are awesome! do you really think they are strong enough though?

looks like you could pull an excavator out of the mud with those things! any plans to make more

I dont plan on making any more... but the there is no patent on the design so your wecome to copy them

I planed for the frame to twist before they do, LOL! I like overkill but I could've easily goten by with 1/4" steel instead of 3/8". It was kind of difficult to get the placement just right so the shackles would drop out of the factory hook location. The only problem I could forsee is that the shackles only pivot a little beyond 90 deg without hitting the bumper, but it's urethane so it gives a little. So if I get it in a deep hole then there could be a chance of cracking the bumper. But that's a minor sacrifice for not having them hang too low and it reduces lateral load on the frame vs. the stock hook by placing the load closer to it.

Where did you get this piece from (part with hole in it)? I'm going to fab up a rear tow hook using an old draw bar and that piece will work perfectly. Thanks.

I ordered the machined peices from ebay. They can make them to whatever dimension you need.

Though, I think I'd rather the tow point bolts break than a chassis rail.
