Tire Pressure reads differently...Very differently...'08 SE

Postby 135zeus » Tue Aug 30, 2011 3:53 am

So, just bought a 2008 SE. I just had brnad new tires put on. The tire pressure monitoring system says the tires ar at about 35-36 PSI. I manually checked the tires when I got home and it was as it should be, around 42-44 PSI.

Is there an issue with my monitoring system or is this a standard/usual discrepancy?

Also, taking votes here. Should I just get the extended warranty or perform the trans coller/rad bypass?? Im at 48K miles now and the warranty tacks on 50K mile coverage.

Did the TPMS read 35-36 PSI right before you manually checked it or when you first started your drive home? The tires will heat up during driving and the pressure will increase so if you checked it right after the tires were installed and then drove home, you would get a different reading at home.

As far as the bypass is concerned, Nissan extended the warranty for this issue to 8 years / 80,000 miles so if that's your main reason for buying the warranty it may not be necessary.

The monitor was reading those numbers after my drive home. Thats what it read after I had already pulled in my driveway and right up until I turned the car off. I measured the tires right after that.....so, thought it was weird.

As for the warranty, as we now know, the 80K coverage doesn't do us much good when the failure typically arrives between 80K-85K. The extended warranty that I can get is at the dealers cost becasue I have an immediate family member that manages the place....so, kinda works out for me! :D
