Annoying vibration

Postby Headache80 » Fri Jun 01, 2012 11:48 pm

Hoping someone can help me out here. I have a 2005 Pathfinder Off Road SE, and I have a couple of issues. Vibration when idle, and vibration again over 40mph. I had an alignment/balance done recently, as well as replacing rotors. The vibration goes away while coasting, but returns the instant I hit the gas pedal. Could this vibration be caused by bad motor mounts? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

I'd start by doing an inspection of the rear and front (if you have 4wd) driveshafts. The u-joints go and will cause your issue at 40mph.

You have to drop the end of the shaft down and check if the u-joint is seized.

As far as the vibe at idle, could be a mount, but I'd start with the driveshaft, as the vibe while moving may be making you sensitve to other noises vibrations that may be normal.

Turns out that it was my rear driveshaft and u joints that were causing all my trouble. Had them taken care of under warranty and now all is perfect. The vibration/rattle that I had at idle was the heat shield, that was welded and that is gone as well. The lady that I delt with at nissan was super helpful too, I had no idea that chips in my windshield were covered by insurance so they took care of those at no charge. My Pathfinder feels brand new again. Thanks so much for the help of pointing me in the right direction!
