2005 with 120K miles. rides like crap. dealership in RI quoted $1591 for new springs/ shocks/ struts

what have other people paid. am i better off going to an independent garage with good reputation?

If I had to guess you should be looking at like 5 hours of labor (2 for the fronts, 1.5 for the rear and another 1.5 for the alignment).

Multiply that by whatever the shop's labor cost is and then start figuring your parts situation.

You should be able to figure out what ballpark they're in...

I wouldn't use a dealer. Doubtful you need new springs in the rear. Fronts you can buy a Monroe Quick-strut for $220 which includes the springs. Took me a couple hours without rushing. Rear shocks and airbags in the springs will make a huge difference. About $250 for Airlift and Bilstein HD shocks. Two more hours labor. So worst case you would be maybe $700 labor and everything at an independent. $470 DIY.
