Hello,
My pathfinder has 150000 KM on it. Yesterday was driving the car and all of a sudden a little jerk and the vdc/slip light came on. Then 20 min into the drive. The car shut off. Restarted all lights came on including the engine light. From there I could start it but would stall. Finally managed to turn my car around head home.
Any ideas ? I recently put a new battery in it also.

The left bank cam position sensor is Nissan P/N: 23731-AL61A
The right bank cam position sensor is Nissan P/N: 23731-6J90B
I would stick with the genuine Nissan part. While only one may be bad, I would replace both of them if it were mine. They are a bit of a pain to get to, however, as they are at the back of the cylinder head.

SES light not triggered.
Why would a cam position sensor failure cause a VDC/Slip warning indicator?
Also, what kind of scanner can read a VDC/Slip problem, or does that have to go to a dealer for code reading?

Many engine problems cause the ECM to stop transmitting engine speed on CAN, which causes the ABS to throw a C1130 and turn on the slip and ABS lamps. They'll go out once you fix the underlying engine issue.

Not for the ABS lights, that scanner is OBD for the engine only. However, you probably only need engine codes. There's probably a P0725 in the tranny too, for the same reason as the C1130, no RPM signal. They'll all clear by themselves when you solve the engine's issue.
The most capable cheap scanner isn't actually a scanner at all, it's an ELM327 bluetooth-OBD adaptor and (for Android) a downloaded copy of Torque Pro or NDS-III.

As of now, I'm going by symptoms, the experience of others, and the thought that there isn't multiple problems at the same, current time.
Since the camshaft sensors are (to me) the most likely culprits, I ordered the scanner to verify & identify that.

Replaced sensor with a new OEM sensor.
Codes cleared by themselves, as you mentioned.
Test drove 24 miles so far, which is double the miles I was able to without the stalling issue.
All is good for now, and I'm grateful for the help.
We used to have "on-board" service and owners manuals @ nissanpath.
Are they no longer available?
