Aftermarket California Cats? Where to buy?

Postby fuelcell » Wed Sep 16, 2015 4:51 pm

So, I have the dreaded P0420 code. 2005 SE, 160k mi. I need a new cat to pass smog here in California.

I cannot for the life of me find an aftermarket cat to buy. The stealership here wants $709.

Any suggestions!!? Thanks.

I believe you are stuck with the dealer. I've never seen California compliant cats for the pathy.

Thanks. I think I'm going to suck it up, get an OEM bolt on from the dealer and just do it myself.

Try an online dealer like CourtesyParts.com or NissanPartsDeal.com. They won't be cheap, but cheaper than your local Nissan parts dept. unless they are willing to haggle with you.

Fuelcell, keep us updated. Let us know where you ended up getting a replacement.

I ended up getting one of the old o2 sensor spacers. Strangely after I put it in the CEL/MIL light went out but my scanner was still reading a P0420 code.

So, reset it, changed the oil (with some Castrol GTX that actually said it was catalytic converter friendly in some way), changed the air filter, ran some nice gas through it and that worked! Passed smog here in CA.
