just took mine off last week end. Took about 20min with a 10 and 12mm sockets. I like it better that way.

I took mine off and liked the look better.

But when I went to 265/70-17 tires I put them back on because the kids were having a tougher time getting in & out. I know....it is only a 1/2" difference

On my '08 I had a million stone chips on the rear fender near where the running boards would have been....so I'm hoping the running boards might prevent some of those stone chips.

good point on the stone chip damage
I use my running boards to access the roof rack, which I frequently use to carry cargo that won't fit inside the truck (usually lumber & moldings)
