Installing replacement distributor

Postby parkbackwards » Sun Nov 01, 2015 2:18 pm

Hello,

My 97' recently threw a 'cam position sensor' error. The distributor was under warranty so I got a replacement (non-OEM). I had a friend (honda tech) help with the replacement. Once installed and timing adjusted we took for a test drive and it drove fine. Turned truck off. Try and restart. Turns over and won't start up. Readjust timing again. Starts again and drives fine. Turn truck off and try and restart...No start again(it will turn over 5 seconds the sounds like is seizes.)

We took the distributor out and realigned the teeth and TDC etc...

Seems like the issue only happens when truck is warm. If it sits for a few days it will start right up. But, once it gets warm it has trouble starting. Never had this issue with the older distributor.

Anyone seen this before? Did I get a bad distributor or does this sound like another issue with the engine?

Thanks!

You may have gotten a bad distributor. It's not uncommon when dealing with aftermarket parts, especially on Asian vehicles.
