New MT tires

Postby G35TR » Sat Oct 18, 2008 8:03 am

Well, I finally took some pictures of the new tires about 2 weeks after getting them on.

These are the Goodyear MT-R's @ 265/75-16's. Once I get the chance to get some better pics "in action", i'll post them up.

Looks good, but it appears the front tires rub or fractions of an inch from rubbing against the wheel well.

Looks good! That's a great tire & probably my first choice if I were ever to go the MT route. What's the speed rating on them? Are you going to get them siped?

They are "P" rated (93 mph) tires. As far as getting them siped, I've thought about it, but it's not high on the priority list.

As far as rubbing, that picture must be a little deceiving. At full lock, there is about 2.5 inches of clearance.

Believe it or not, road noise is virtually non-existent!! The only time I hear anything is a slight rumble when taking a corner too fast. I couldn't believe it once I had them on, as I expected them to be quite a bit louder.
Also, handling seems a lot better now too, although this is probably b/c I had leaks on the passenger side OEM tires. At first these new tires seemed to float around on the road a little more than the last set, but I soon realized that this was because I don't have to adjust for the low pressure passenger tire leaks anymore. With the old tires, they would get a little deflated which caused a slight pull to the right. Well apparently I got used to the pull, and adjusted my driving style to accommodate for this pull. Once this disappeared with the new tires, I found myself adjusting a lot. Now I'm back to normal, and the tires track nice and true.

It's not all positive though. These tires definately have a lot more drag then the previous set, due to the larger treads. The truck does not idle nearly as fast now.

Also, there is also a difference in MPG now. Seems my gas mileage is down about 1 MPG. I'm holding about 14.1MPG now, down from about 15-15.5MPG (all stop and go city). On the HWY, I usually can hold about 20 MPG. This assumes I can keep it around 70MPH.

Good to hear you don't have rubbing and yeah, it looks deceiving.
