New Shoes - Mastercraft Courser AXT

Picked them up last night at Walmart. $115 each + tax - pickup discount = $485ish :lol:

Need to find time sometime this weekned or next week to get them mounted, balanced, and then alignment.

I'm still running on my original BFGoodrich tires (6 years w/ 66k miles). Still have some thread left :lol:

Nice! Who's doing the mounting and balancing? Did you not trust Wal-mart to do it?

If the guys that change the tires in his Walmart are anything like the ones that work in the Walmart near me, I wouldn't trust them in mounting and balancing! They have two, nice, Coats wheel balancers and the only they know how to do is static balance wheels. They have no clue how to set the balancer up to do any other kind of wheel balancing. FYI, Mastercraft are pretty good tires; they are an off-brand made by Cooper.

The Walmart near me doesn't have a tire service center.

I do have Mavis near me. I did try to "walk in" Satruday morning, but that was a no go. I'm just going to make an appointment. I'm not sure if I want to drop it off at night and pick it up the next day, or make an appointment Saturday or Sunday morning.

I stayed with the stock size = 265/65 17

SMJ ... pointed out last year when I started shopping for tires, that if I change my tire size, there could be issues when I use my spare tire.


I made an appointment with Mavis Discount Tire near me. Got a price quote of $120+tax to get my tires mounted, balanced, and wheel alignment. 8)

Probably the safest, but if not too late see if you can exchange for 265/70 17
I think still okay with spare ( if you never use it :-)

So ... I took my usual weekend trip to the Pocono Mountains in PA. Everything was fine up until I hit 80MPH. There was slight shaking. I'm thinking the tires weren't balanced properly. Any thoughts?

I checked the tire pressure before leaving the house. I set all the tires at 35psi.

I just want to check with your guys before taking it back to the shop.

Well, one could say they were balance properly for the maximum speed limit of the roads! :P Seriously, though, if you do a lot of high-speed driving, your best bet is to have them balanced on a road-force balancer.

+1 for the Road Force balance. I have never, ever gotten a proper balance from any other machine than the Hunter Road Force – and even then I've had to take it back a time or two.

Took it back to Mavis last Thursday. They rebalanced all 4 tires. Drove it all weekend. No more shaking at highway speeds. 8)
