Hello,
My fiancee and I purchased a 2008 PF in really good condition about 2 weeks ago. We had noticed on a few occasions that when trying to shift out of park we had to press the button on the drive stick or press the brakes, etc. a few times for it to work. I assumed it was the shift interlock solenoid or the relay for it because I have had this issue with many vehicles over my years...
However.....TODAY after DOZENS of attempts to get it out of park, I tried using the shift override manual override button to no avail. We had just came home from using the vehicle around town and about a dozen starts and stops. It took a couple of tries a few times to get it to get out of park but it worked.
My issue is I know now I have to immediately fix the issue. However I CANT because when I go to remove the trim around the shift to get access to the components I need to check or replace I cannot because I would have to break the bezel to get access because the manual override will not let me move the shifter out of park to give me enough room to get the bezel off.
Has anyone heard of this or have any ideas what I could do or what the problem would be? Had I not been driving it all day I would think OK its a mechanical issue with the transmission but it has happened enough intermittently that I am really sure it has something to do with the solenoid, relay or shift cable, etc...
I appreciate the help in advance!
