IDEA ! BATTERY BLANKET, DONE.

So I used the Dodge Mopar battery blanket # 05033395AA for approx. 12.00. comes in a fold out type, I cut the top cover off and put that in the inside front and folded the velcro flap over to hold it in. Not a bad idea,will keep some cold off the battery, could leave top on and cut slots in it for the battery cable ends to come through if you want. This is the same blanket that is on my 2010 Ram, it gave me this idea.

Cool idea, I dont think it will get that cold for me since Im currently stationed down here in Corpus Chrsiti, TX, now when I go back home to Utah it might come in handy.

How much power is the blanket rated for?

I am under the impression that heat is far worse for a battery than cold. Case in point is my 98 civic factory battery. It lived through 8 Winnipeg winters (its gets to and stays at -40 here for weeks at a time). But I hear that friends in Arizona and other warmer climes are lucky to get 3 or 4 seasons out of their batteries...

However, I would agree that a battery nearing the end of its life may benefit from a blanket in sub-zero temps. Thats because the electrolyte in the battery is probably worn and susceptible to freezing. That equals automatic replacement.

All my GMs came with a battery blanket. After a year or so it collected dirt so I always removed them. If you worried about your battery electrolyte freezing get a Optima battery, the electrolyte is a paste and will not freeze and will never separate in the case. Red top is the way to go.

I get 2 to 3 years out of my batteries here in Arizona. Even the Optima Red top only lasted me 3 years.
