Page 5-20 in the 06 manual specifically says:
"The 4H position provides greater traction.
Avoid excessive speed, as it will
cause increased fuel consumption and
higher oil temperatures, and could
damage drivetrain components.
Speeds over 62.5 MPH (100 km/h) in 4H
is not recommended."

You don't. But based on my own experience & a lot of crazy posts on the Australian Pathfinder forum, I'm not worried one bit with the type of driving I do. I'm always far more worried about binding the wheels in extremely slow/more hardcore conditions. Well, that and having a rock punch a hole/breaking something underneath.disallow wrote:How do you know what the temp of the diff oil is?
You cant tell but I beleive there is a heat warning light that will come on if the tranny gets to hot.disallow wrote:How do you know what the temp of the diff oil is?NVSteve wrote:I often drive well above 60mph in 4 HI, although only in brief spurts (dirt straightaways). I'm sure the mpg will take a hit, but I've never had excessive temperatures because of it.
