Question about key on fob -- flat battery

It's dark out, and so I won't be able to see my Pathfinder until tomorrow.

Just want to be prepared before that:

Does one pop out the emergency key cover on the driver's door from the side (next to the door handle), or from below that point? Also, does it slide out, or do I have to pry it with a screwdriver or similar implement?

Want to do it with minimal body scratch so that I can open the car and pull the hood latch.
