Pathy on the beach

Took a ride to the beach to fish for a few hours, first time with my new to me Pathy. The bite was slow so I took a nice ride to test the 4x4. About half of my ride included sand much deeper than pictured, 8-10". Started in 4hi (not auto) and was going good till it got deep. Lots clicking going on, sounded kinda like abs.

I was alone and didnt want to risk getting stuck. Shifted into 4low and was cruising through the deep sand nicely.

I still have nightmares of getting stuck on the beach with my Volvo XC90 AWD. Once the tires start spinning, it's over. The vehicle sinks to the frame. It sounded like that might be happening with the Pathy. Will have to reread Racer's AUTO vs 4x4 thread.

The clicking you heard was the ABLS (anti lock brake limited slip). it throws the brakes on the side that is spinning, which in turn throws more power to the side that is not spinning.

you look overinflated. how much pressure did you have in the tires?

Not overinflated for the street, but for the beach? i would of let out at least a handful of psi's.

I run 15 psi on the beach. Looking at the tires, the bottom portion is much smaller than the top. Looks good to me.

Maybe a personal opinion here, but I like to turn VDC off when I'm driving on sand/snow/off road. It slows you down if it thinks your going sideways, which in turn will get you stuck. Just my opinion though, as I do a lot of deep snow driving (work for a snow removal company) and like to keep my tires spinning.

I know this has been discussed before, but I'm certain there is no way to turn off the ABLS. I lost this argument a long time ago. (I said there was a way, but tested and there is not).

i've turned off my ABS when offroading by pulling the fuse. it works. it also turns off the dashboard.

when you're going down a heavy slipface and the ABS kicks in, you're in for a bumper replacement if not more.

Is the Pathfinder stuck? I can't imagine how it would get stuck like that. Could you explain how the front end sunk? thanks.

Pretty sure Marwan meant that his getting stuck in that photo was related to the abs kicking in on the way down that dune.
